Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper (Saweetie) was born on 2 July 1993 in Santa Clara, California to Trinidad Valentin and Johnny Harper. She completed Merrill F. West High School and graduated from Monterey Trail High School. Saweetie also attended San Diego State University where she studied communications and business. She also graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in communications from the University of Southern California. After her university education, Saweetie decided to follow her childhood dream of becoming a musician.
Saweetie started posting short raps on her Instagram account in 2012 and one particular one titled “My Neck, My Back (Lick It)” which later became “Icy Grl” went viral. The video on YouTube has so far accumulated over 100 million views. The video caught the attention of Max Gousse (a well-known producer and A&R) who later became her manager.
In February 2018, Saweetie was signed by Warner Bros records. She also released her debut EP “High Maintenance” in March 2018 which is made up of about 9 tracks. The project was produced by Zaytoven, Hassan, and Cash Money AP.
