About Herro

Tyler Christopher Herro is a professional basketball player for the Miami Heat.

He was a member of the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team for one year.

He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2020 after being drafted by the Heat in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft with the 13th overall pick.


Career

Herro was born 20th January, 2000 in Greenfield and graduated from Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wisconsin.

In his senior season, he was named to the First Team All-State as he averaged 32.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 steals per game; his field goal percentage was over 50 percent and his three-point shooting percentage was 43.5 percent.

A born scorer, he scored more than 2,000 points in his high school career.

Herro was offered scholarships to the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Marquette University, DePaul University, Oregon State University, and Arizona State University while still in high school.

After numerous visits to the University of Wisconsin’s Madison campus, he decided to play with the Badgers.

He de-committed after Kentucky coach John Calipari watched him play in person and convinced Tyler into changing his next destination.

Calipari offered Herro a scholarship.

Herro then visited the Kentucky campus and decided to play for Kentucky.

Herro was the only player on the Kentucky Wildcats’ roster to start all 37 games, averaging 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

He scored a collegiate career-high 29 points on February 27, 2019, to lead the Wildcats to a 70–6 comeback victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks, making 9 of 10 field goals and all six free throws.

Herro entered the NBA draft for the first time in 2019, foregoing his final three years of college eligibility and hiring an agency.

In most mock drafts, he was projected to be a mid-first-round pick.

Herro was taken with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft by the Miami Heat on June 20, 2019.

Herro was chosen the top shooter in the 2019 draft class by his fellow rookies.

Debuting and starting in his first NBA game against Memphis he scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and assisted twice in their win.

Herro was supposed to play in the Rising Stars game during All-Star Weekend in 2020, but an ankle ailment forced him to withdraw.

He set a career high with 37 points in Game 4 of the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals, becoming the fourth player in playoff history to score 30 or more points before turning 21 and the second-highest scorer under 21, trailing only Magic Johnson.

He also broke the Conference Finals marks for the youngest player to score 30+ points (at 20 years, 247 days old) and the most points by a rookie.

Herro became the first player born in the 2000s to participate in an NBA Finals after defeating the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Records!! Herro became the youngest player to start an NBA Finals game aged 20 years, 256 days during Game 2 of the 2020 NBA Finals, eight days younger than Magic Johnson was when he started Game 1 for the Lakers against the Philadelphia 76ers in 1980.

He set the record for most 3 points made by a rookie in NBA Playoffs history in Game 4 of the same Finals series, making 45 beyond the arc shots to beat Matt Maloney’s 43 from the 1997 NBA Playoffs.

Herro broke a 44-year-old record on October 9, 2020, when he scored 10 points in the third quarter of Game 5 of the 2020 NBA Finals, setting the NBA record for the most consecutive games in the playoffs scoring in double digits with 20, surpassing Alvan Adams’s record of 19 games set by the Phoenix Suns in 1976.

Herro helped the Heat to the NBA Finals in 2020, but they were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.

Herro made history on October 23, 2021, when he became the first player in Heat franchise history to score 30 points and grab 10 rebounds off the bench in a 102–91 loss against the Indiana Pacers.
