Tim Hardaway Jr.’s  dad was a superstar in the NBA and as a son of former NBA All-Star, Hardaway Jr. had basketball in his genes from his youthful days, seeing his dad Tim Hardaway make a big name for himself in the NBA.

Tim Hardaway Jr. was born on March 16, 1992 and is an American professional basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He also played college basketball for the Michigan Wolverines before finally declaring for the 2013 NBA Draft after his junior season.


Career

Hardaway attended Miami Palmetto High School in the Pinecrest region of Miami-Dade County, Florida, where he received his diploma.

He played high school football for a year as a freshman before focusing on basketball.

At College, he made his starting debut for the 2010–11 Wolverines against South Carolina Upstate.

He joined a team that had just lost its best player Manny Harris who declared for the 2010 NBA Draft.

Hardaway led the club in scoring in his first career game, the season opener, with 19 points, but he quickly fell into a shooting slump, going 4 for 30 on field goals in games against Syracuse and UTEP in late November.

These games marked the start of a slump in which he went 13 games without making a 50 percent field goal percentage and 19 games without making more than that.

As a sophomore, he was a preseason top 50 watch list selection for the John R. Wooden Award and the Naismith College Player of the Year.

He was instrumental along with co-Mavs teammate Trey Burke who the media constantly referred to both as the best backcourt in college for his junior season.

Hardaway declared for the NBA draft on April 17. Hardaway has signed with Mark Bartelstein, a sports agent who represents 37 NBA players and is the father of a former Michigan teammate.

The NBA Draft Combine welcomed 60 players and Hardaway was one of them.

The New York Knicks selected Hardaway with the 24th overall pick.

Since Juwan Howard and Jalen Rose in the 1994 NBA draft, Trey Burke and Hardaway became the first Michigan combination to be taken in the first round.

Hardaway followed in the footsteps of his father, who was drafted 14th overall in the 1989 NBA draft.

The Hawks extended Hardaway a qualifying offer after the 2016–17 season, making him a restricted free agent.


Hardaway received a four-year, $71 million offer sheet from the Knicks on July 6, 2017, and Atlanta had 48 hours to match or lose Hardaway.


The $16.50 million, $17.32 million, $18.15 million, and $18.97 million contract includes a player option in year 4 and a 15 percent bonus on the remaining salary from years 1 through 3 in the event of a trade.

Hardaway was placed into the starting lineup for the first time that season on November 20, 2019, and scored 20 points in a 142–94 win over the Golden State Warriors.

In a 110–106 loss to the Sacramento Kings on December 8, 2019, he hit a career-high nine three-pointers.

Hardaway set a career high with 204 three-pointers made during the regular season, ranking seventh in the NBA.

Hardaway exercised his contractual option to stay with the Mavericks on November 19, 2020, following the end of the 2019–20 season.



On August 9, 2021, Hardaway re-signed with the Mavericks.
