John Earl Madden, better known as John Madden, was a professional American football coach and sportscaster. For ten seasons (1969–1978), he coached the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL), guiding them to a Super Bowl XI victory (1977).

He continued as a color commentator for NFL telecasts until 2009 after leaving coaching, winning 16 Sports Emmy Awards for his contributions. He has contributed his name, knowledge, and color commentary to the John Madden Football video game franchise since 1988. (later Madden NFL).
