Dennis Schroder is a German professional basketball player who now plays for the Houston Rockets.
Before spending his first five seasons in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and two years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he played for SG Braunschweig and Phantoms Braunschweig in Germany.
He is the sole owner and primary shareholder of his German hometown team, Braunschweig of the Easycredit BBL, since 2018.

Career

Schröder started playing professional basketball in 2010 for SG Braunschweig, farm team of Phantoms Braunschweig, he played there from 2010-2013 and was announced the League’s Most Improved Player as well as Best Young German Player in the 2012-2013 season.

Schröder decided to declare for the 2013 NBA draft and was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 17th overall pick.

In his draft he earned comparison to Rajon Rondo due to his style of play and large hands.

Schröder was guilty of frequent turnovers early in the season, and as a result, his minutes were cut accordingly.

His hawks’ role become vital in 2016 after Jeff Teague left and took the mantle to be the role player on the team, he kept scoring and breaking career high in points that season as he also led the Hawks into the playoffs.

Schröder was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on July 25, 2018, as part of a three-team deal involving the Hawks and the Philadelphia 76ers.

He was the team’s sixth man in his first season in Oklahoma, coming off the bench behind superstar point guard Russell Westbrook.

His second season with the team saw him in the role of the sixth man yet again, this time behind veteran All-Star point guard Chris Paul and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Schröder led the league in scoring off the bench with 18.9 points per game, while shooting a career-high 46.9% from the field, including 38.5% on 3-point field goals.

Since the OKC he has gone on to represent the Lakers and the Boston Celtics before being recently traded was traded along with Enes Freedom and Bruno Fernando, to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Daniel Theis.


Schröder has previously played for the German national under-18 and under-20 teams.

He was a member of the German team that finished sixth in the 2012 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship, averaging 6.1 points, 2 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 14.6 minutes on the court.

In a game against Finland on July 27, 2014, he made his senior Germany national basketball team debut.


Schröder competed in the EuroBasket 2015 group stage, which was held in Berlin. Germany finished 18th in the final rankings after failing to qualify for the knockout stage.



He came back for EuroBasket 2017, leading Germany to the quarterfinals and averaged 23.7 points per game, which was a tournament high.
