Andrew  Wiggins who was born on the 23rd of February, 1995 is a Canadian professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors.

Andrew was selected as the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers after one year with the Kansas Jayhawks.

Early Life

Wiggins was born in Toronto, Ontario, and grew up in the Vaughan neighborhood of Thornhill.

He is the son of Mitchell Wiggins, a former NBA player from the United States, and Marita Payne-Wiggins, a former Olympic track and field sprinter from Barbados.

Career

It was at Vaughan that he helped his high school Vaughan Secondary School to a 44-1 record en route to the championship in Ontario, Canada.

In 2011, he transferred to Huntington Prep School in Huntington, West Virginia.

Andrew Wiggins committed to Kansas on May 14, 2013 to begin his college journey.

Having a good period amassing points and rebounds for Kansas, Wiggins declared for the 2014 NBA draft on March 31, 2014.

He was selected first overall in the draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers on June 26, 2014, becoming just the second Canadian ever picked number one in the draft, after Anthony Bennett, who had been selected first overall one-year prior in the 2013 NBA draft, also by Cleveland.

A three-team deal involving the Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Philadelphia 76ers was consummated on August 23.

Wiggins and Bennett were sent to the Wolves, along with Thaddeus Young, who was then with the Sixers, as part of the transaction.

Kevin Love was acquired by the Cavaliers from Minnesota, while Luc Mbah a Moute and Alexey Shved were acquired by the Sixers in exchange for a 2015 first-round lottery pick from Cleveland.

Wiggins is only the second player since the ABA–NBA merger to be taken first overall and then traded without playing a single game for the franchise to which he was initially selected.

Wiggins was named MVP of the Rising Stars Challenge after leading Team World to a 121–112 victory over Team USA.

He was also named Rookie of the year for his stellar performances in the 2014-15 NBA season.

On January 18, 2020 in the 2019-20 season, Wiggins achieved his first career triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high 11 assists.

Trade

Andrew Wiggins, after playing for 6 seasons at the Minnesota Timberwolves was traded to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Jacob Evans, D’Angelo Russell and Omari Spellman.

Wiggins scored 24 points and had five steals in his debut for the Warriors, in a 125–120 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

He was selected as a Western Conference starter for the NBA All-Star Game in 2022, marking his first ever All-Star appearance.
His efforts helped Canada win Bronze in the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship and 2012 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship.
