Jaylen Brown Career

Jaylen Brown attended Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia.

As a senior, he helped lead his team to victory in the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class 6A State Championship.

Known for his two-way ability in offense and defense, Jaylen was regarded as the best prospect in his class and 4th best in the country.

Due to his high flying progress he was invited to the USA under-18 basketball team to participate in the 2014 FIBA Americas world cup where USA eventually won, adding up to his resume as a player.

He kept taking extra classes as a student athlete which is kind of rare and also a trait that separated him from all his high school teammates.

He was also captain of his High school chess team.

He chose to play college basketball at the University of California, Berkeley.

A school not known for its sports success but rather its impressive Academic program.

Brown took a masters-level class in Berkeley’s Cultural Studies of Sport in Education program during his first semester in college.

He also gained some fluency in Spanish, stating his desire of learning three more languages by the age of 25.

He was essentially the best player at his college averaging 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 27.6 minutes per game over 34 games.

Brown earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors and was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.

He chose to forego his college eligibility and declare for the 2016 NBA draft.

Typically, when athletes forego their college eligibility they hire an agent to help them out through contracts, decisions and go through the draft process.

Surprisingly, for Brown he chose to hire no agent but chose to represent himself.

He again tried to assemble his Advisory team and took advices from NBA hall of famers like Isaiah Thomas.

Due to his draft comments about him being too smart to be an athlete and how intimidating he may be for General managers and coaches due to how intellectually curious he is.

He wasn’t fazed by those comments at all and insisted he isn’t going to be disrespectful but will just be himself.

Still a high prospect, On June 23, 2016, Brown was selected by the Boston Celtics with the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft.

He was compared to guys like Jimmy Butler, Dominique Wilkins and DeMar DeRozan because he was one of the most athletic guys in the league with a good defense which was mostly underrated due to his position and was offensively very quick to the rim.

He appeared however in 78 games for the Celtics during the regular season as a rookie, with 20 starts.

He averaged 17.2 minutes on the floor, 6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists.

He made the playoffs in his first season in 2016-17, eventually making the Eastern conference finals only to lose to the LeBron led Cavs in 5 games.

In each of his past seasons with Boston he’s made the playoffs.
