Klay Alexander Thompson better known as Klay Thompson (born February 8, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He is credited as one of the greatest shooters in NBA history.
Klay is a three-time NBA champion with the Warriors and a five-time NBA All-Star.

Early life of Klay Thompson

Klay is partly Bahamian through his dad.
His mum is white, forming his ethnic background and skin tone.
Thompson was born in Los Angeles to Julie and Mychal Thompson. His mother was a volleyball player in college for the University of Portland and University of San Francisco.

While his father was the first overall pick of the 1978 NBA draft picked by the Portland Trail Blazers.
Klay has 2 other brothers, Michael Thompson played basketball and at some point was with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
His younger brother Trayce took a different route as he plays baseball professionally, last with the Chicago Cubs but is currently a free agent.

Klay is also good friends with NBA star Kevin Love as the two used to strangely play baseball together before switching to basketball later.
During the state championship, Thompson set a state finals record with seven 3-pointers in a game.

He continued on to Washington State University where he led his team in 3-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage, and averaging 12.5 points per game.
He was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team and All-Freshman Honorable Mention Team.

On January 18, 2020, Washington State retired the No. 1 that Thompson wore in college.
Thompson declared for the 2011 NBA draft after his junior season, being selected 11th overall by the Golden State Warriors.

The 2011 draft was star studded as the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Kemba Walker and Kyrie Irving were all drafted.
Funny enough future NBA busts like Derrick Williams were considered higher in rank in the draft class than the future NBA 3 time champion Thompson.

Thompson quickly formed an alliance with star Stephen Curry as the duo in that season in 2013 combined for 483 three-pointers made, the most ever by an NBA duo at the time.
He then was part of the warriors 2014-15 NBA championship title under coach Steve Kerr, he made the headlines by making the NBA All-star selection for that season.

After a loss in the NBA finals the following season in 2015-16 to a LeBron and Kyrie led Cavs, they bounced back harder for a back to back NBA championship success in 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.
He has won a total of 8 regular season records which include; the record for most points scored in a quarter, the most field goals in a quarter, the most three pointers made in a game, the most three pointers attempted in a game, the most consecutive three pointers made to start a game, the most three pointers made in a half, the most field goals made in a quarter and the most field goals made in a quarter with no misses.


Klay Thompson Injuries

Since 2019 till date he has struggled with injuries.
In Game 6 of the NBA championship final against the Raptors, Thompson suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and departed with 30 points midway through the third quarter, as the Warriors went on to lose the game and the series with a 114–110 defeat and 4-2 in the series.

Thompson underwent successful knee surgery on his torn ACL, and missed the entire 2019–20 season as a result.
He returned to practice with the Warriors in September 2020.

On November 19, it was announced that Thompson would miss the entire 2020–21 season due to an Achilles tendon injury, which he suffered in a pickup game in Los Angeles.
Thompson was assigned to the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s NBA G League affiliate, alongside James Wiseman for rehab purposes.

He was recalled on December 1.
Thompson and Wiseman were yet again assigned to Santa Cruz on December 11.



Klay Thompson Return & Return date

January 8, 2022, Thompson announced he would make his return to the court on January 9 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In his return under limited game time, Thompson scored 17 points on 7-from-18 shooting in 20 minutes, as the Warriors defeated the Cavaliers 96–82.

Many described his return as a dream come through.
