Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot (born May 9, 1995) is a French basketball player who now plays for the Atlanta Hawks.

The Philadelphia 76ers selected him with the 24th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft.

Luwawu-Cabarrot was born in France, and is of Congolese descent through his father.



 

Career

Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot played a total of five games for Antibes Sharks between 2012-2014.


He signed his first professional contract with Antibes in January 2014, and for the first time in 2014–15, he was a complete squad member.

He averaged 7.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game for Antibes in 42 games in 2014–15.

He also contributed to the team’s victory in the LNB Pro B Leaders Cup.

He had intended to enter the 2015 NBA draft, but decided against it.

Luwawu-Cabarrot signed with Mega Leks of Serbia for the 2015–16 season on July 5, 2015.

He helped the club win the Serbian Cup, and he was named to the All-ABA League Team at the end of the season.

He averaged 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game in 28 ABA League games for the Mega Leks.

Luwawu-Cabarrot declared for the 2016 NBA draft in April.

The Philadelphia 76ers then selected him with the 24th overall choice in the draft.

He signed a rookie scale contract with the 76ers on July 3, 2016, and joined the team for the 2016 NBA Summer League.

In a 104–72 loss against the Atlanta Hawks on October 29, 2016, he made his NBA debut, recording an unimpressive one rebound, one assist, and one steal in six minutes off the bench.

In his rookie season, he had multiple assignments to the Delaware 87ers of the NBA Development League.

On 25 July 2018, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a three-team deal involving the 76ers and the Atlanta Hawks.

Luwawu-Cabarrot was dealt to the Chicago Bulls for a protected 2020 second-round draft selection in return for monetary considerations.

Luwawu-Cabarrot joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for training camp on September 30, 2019, and played two preseason games before being waived.

Luwawu-Cabarrot signed a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets on October 23, 2019.

The Nets announced on January 15, 2020 that they had signed Luwawu-Cabarrot to a 10-day deal.

He was signed to a second 10-day contract on January 25. Luwawu-Cabarrot signed a multi-year contract with the Nets on February 7.

Luwawu-Cabarrot signed with the Atlanta Hawks on September 22, 2021.


Luwawu-Cabarrot competed in the 2014 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship and the 2015 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship for the junior French national basketball teams.

He helped France reach the semifinals.

He was a member of the French national basketball team that came in second place at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Luwawu-Cabarrot scored 11 points in a losing effort in the gold medal match against the United States men’s basketball team, winning a silver medal.
