Myles Turner (born March 24, 1996) is an American professional basketball player for the Indiana Pacers, over the years he has been linked with a move to the Lakers which ultimately did not come on.

It was reported that the Lakers were reportedly “interested” in a dealing for Pacers center Myles Turner before trade deadline citing that adding Turner to their rooster solves many of their basketball on field problems and gives them a chance in the playoffs talk.

 


Myles Turner spent one season with the Texas Longhorns before declaring for the 2015 NBA draft and getting picked 11th overall by the Indiana Pacers.

 

 

Career

He went to Central Junior High School and led his team to 27 victories as a 6-foot-2-inch (1.88 m) freshman.

Turner played AAU basketball for the Texas Select team during the spring and summers during high school to further his development and gain recognition as a player.

Myles Turner’s athleticism, ball handling, shooting skill, and natural shot blocking abilities for someone his height began to receive national attention as he entered his senior year, and he became a highly sought after recruit.

He represented the United States in the 2014 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship, helping the country win a gold medal.

Turner officially announced his commitment to play basketball for the University of Texas.

Turner was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2015 after averaging 10.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game as a freshman at Texas in 2014–15.

Turner declared for the NBA draft on March 30, 2015, foregoing his remaining three years of NCAA eligibility.

The Indiana Pacers selected Turner with the 11th overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft.

Between November 13 and December 28 of his rookie season, he missed 21 games due to surgery to heal a fracture in his left thumb.

In his rookie season, with a 45–37 record, Turner helped the Pacers reach the Eastern Conference playoffs, where they were defeated 4–3 by the Toronto Raptors in the first round.

He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team at the end of the season.

Prior to the start of the 2017–18 season, Turner was chosen as team captain for the Pacers.

On October 15, 2018, Turner signed a four-year, $72 million contract extension with the Pacers.

Turner had a career-high eight blocks in a 119–80 win over the Charlotte Hornets on February 25, 2020.

Turner finished the season with a league-leading 3.4 blocks per game in the 2020-21 season.

Turner had a career-high 40 points, five three-pointers, ten rebounds, and three blocks in a 135–134 overtime defeat against the Washington Wizards on October 22, 2021.

Turner scored 25 points, made a career-high seven 3-pointers, and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 111–98 win over the New York Knicks on November 4.


During his own time, Turner mentioned he enjoys building Lego sets and practicing yoga.
