Derrick Rose (born October 4, 1988) is an American professional basketball player for the New York Knicks.

The once upon a time number 1 player in the nation, Rose has had a career of both sour and sweet moments, sour moments making him injury prone but received a lot of love from fans to keep him going.

His injury plagued career has nevertheless kept him from still being a very top player when he plays.

Rose was born October 4, 1988 in Englewood.

Early Life

Rose grew up in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago’s South Side, which is one of the city’s most violent areas.

After Dwayne, Reggie, and Allan, he is Brenda Rose’s youngest son.

On neighboring courts, all three were outstanding basketball players who taught Rose the fundamentals of the game.

Rose began to garner considerably more outside interest in Chicago’s basketball circles as his talent for the sport expanded, prompting his mother and brothers to limit outside contact with him.

She was concerned that, like former Chicago prospect Ronnie Fields, he might be exploited and his road to the NBA derailed by outside parties such as street agents.

Without a father in his life, his mum and older brothers played fatherly roles in his life.

Before and during high school he was a hot prospect for colleges and coaches, getting all the accolades and all.

He lived up to expectations and finally got a Scholarship at the University of Memphis.
In the South Region, Memphis was seeded first.

Rose received high accolades for his enhanced defensive attention in the Elite Eight, where he chased Texas Longhorn Guard D. J. Augustin into a low-percentage game.

Memphis concluded the season 38–2. Rose was named to the All-Final Four team.

Rose stated on April 15 that he would forego his last three seasons at Memphis and enter the 2008 NBA Draft.

Rose was selected with the first overall pick in the 2008 draft by the Chicago Bulls and played there from 2008-2016.

He also became the first draftee to score 10 points or more in his first 10 games since Michael Jordan.

On January 28, 2010, Rose was elected to his first career All-Star Game as a reserve for the Eastern Conference, making him the first Bulls player to be selected since Michael Jordan in 1998.

He was breaking and resetting Jordan records from past.

The Bulls finished the 2010–11 NBA season with a 62–20 record, which was the best in the league.

It was the Bulls’ first 60-win season since 1997–98, and their sixth in team history.

Rose became only the third player since the 1972–73 NBA season to score 2,000 points and 600 assists in a single season at the end of the season.

LeBron James and Michael Jordan were the other two players.

He was unanimously named Most Valuable Player (MVP).

During Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers, Rose injured his left knee while trying to jump.

He was immediately helped off the court.

Rose came up just short of a triple-double, finishing with 23 points, 9 assists, and 9 rebounds in 37 minutes of action.

An MRI later revealed that Rose tore the ACL in his left knee and would miss the rest of the playoffs.

Rose had surgery performed on May 12, 2012, with an estimated recovery period of 8–12 months.

He returned and went back once more due to another injury, this time in his right knee meniscus.

On June 22, 2016, Rose was traded, along with Justin Holiday and a 2017 second-round draft pick, to the New York Knicks in exchange for future teammate José Calderon, Jerian Grant and Robin Lopez.

He was ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing the meniscus in his left knee, necessitating a fourth round of knee surgery for Rose in his nine-year career.

Signing with the Cavs, he missed more than two months of play.

Rose was acquired by the Jazz and signed by the Timberwolves.

It was in Minnesota he scored a career-high 50 points in a 128–125 win over the Utah Jazz, securing the victory with a block on Utah’s final shot as time expired.

Battling a career of injuries Rose signed with the Pistons and traded to the Knicks later.
