De’Andre Hunter: His career, injury and trade

De’Andre Hunter (born December 2, 1997) is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association for the Atlanta Hawks (NBA).

In his college career, he was selected NABC Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 while playing collegiate basketball for the Virginia Cavaliers.

Despite being ranked outside the top 100 as a high school prospect, Hunter set a new career high with 27 points in the 2019 NCAA Championship Game and went on to become a lottery pick in the NBA after his redshirt sophomore season.

De’Andre Hunter’s Injury

In his 18th appearance of the season, De’Andre Hunter suffered a knee injury in a game against the Wizards.

De’Andre  Hunter bowed out for 3 months and returned for the Hawks in a May 10 game against the Wizards in a limited capacity.

In the final game of the regular season, Hunter logged 24 minutes, scoring 14 points.

The following season, on February 4, 2022, Hunter scored 23 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in a 125-114 loss to the Toronto Raptors.

De’Andre Hunter’s Career

De’Andre Hunter went at Wynnewood, Pennsylvania’s Friends’ Central School. He was selected Pennsylvania Class AA Player of the Year as a junior after averaging 21.6 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game.

Hunter averaged 23.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 blocks per game as a senior in 2016. Hunter was a four-star recruit who was ranked 72nd overall in the 2016 high school class and 14th best small forward.

Hunter committed to Virginia on September 12, 2015, rejecting offers from NC State and Notre Dame.

At Virginia, Hunter scored in double digits in 16 games as a redshirt freshman, including 11 conference games. Hunter hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer during a game against Louisville.

De’Andre  Hunter later broke his wrist and could not play in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Despite rumors that he will declare for the 2018 NBA draft, Hunter eventually stated that he would return to Virginia for the 2018–2019 season for his sophomore season.

Hunter averaged 15.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in his sophomore season.

In the 2019 NCAA Tournament, he assisted Virginia in securing yet another #1 seed. Hunter’s 27 points and 9 rebounds helped Virginia win the 2019 National Championship game 85–77.
Following his second season, Hunter announced his intention to forgo his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility and declare for the 2019 NBA draft, where he was taken 4th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers and later traded to the Atlanta Hawks.

De’Andre Hunter was picked with the 4th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers on June 20, 2019.

And he was later traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Anthony Davis trade, and then to the Atlanta Hawks with Solomon Hill in exchange for picks Nos. 8, 17, and 35 in the 2019 NBA draft.

The Atlanta Hawks officially announced Hunter’s signing on July 7, 2019.

Hunter made his NBA debut on October 24, 2019, starting with fourteen points and two rebounds in a 117–100 win over the Detroit Pistons.

Hunter recorded a career high of 33 points against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Hunter was picked with the 4th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers on June 20, 2019.


And he was later traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Anthony Davis trade, and then to the Atlanta Hawks with Solomon Hill in exchange for picks Nos. 8, 17, and 35 in the 2019 NBA draft.
