Darius Garland is an American professional basketball player who plays as a Point Guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Garland was born on January 26,2000 in Gary, Indiana, USA.

In the 2019 NBA Draft, he was the 5th overall pick selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

During the just ended All-star weekend in Cleveland, he helped the Cavs alongside his two team mates Jarret Allen and Evan Mobley win the Skills challenge by beating the Rooks in the final.

He also made the All-star rooster, featuring for victors’ team LeBron and showing everybody why he is an All-Star.

 


Early Life and career

Born to Felicia Garland and basketball player Winston Garland, he grew up playing baseball and started basketball at age five but soon after focused just on basketball.

Both of Garland’s grandfathers served in the United States Army.

He has an older sister, Kacie, and older brothers, Desmond, Cody, Miguel and Hilton.

In his High School Career, he played for Brentwood Academy.

He was an immense scorer leading his school to a 30-2 record and a state championship.

Garland moved on the Vanderbilt for his college Career, and regarded as the best recruit to ever sign with the College.

He sustained an injury which sidelined him for the remainder of the season, his then coach announced.

With that information Darius announced he will leave Vanderbilt and focus on the 2019 NBA Draft after recovering from his injury.

Garland was selected with the fifth pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2019 NBA draft.

On July 3, 2019, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that they had signed with Garland.

He made his debut in a loss to Orlando Magic with eight points, two rebounds, five assists and a steal, quite decent for a Rookie especially in a very low scoring game.

He joined a very weak Cavs side at the time struggling for wins and playoffs appearance, they were still under re-construction after losing LeBron.

He is a lethal offensive threat for the Cavs as he scores and assists a lot, having a high basketball IQ.

On April 4, 2021, Garland scored a career-high 37 points, along with seven assists in a 125–101 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

Darius Garland also recorded a Career high 18 assists against OKC.

Garland was selected to his first NBA All-Star Game as a reserve representing the hometown Cavs.

 



Injury

Darius Garland injured his knee during a layup versus Kent State on November 23 and left the game early.


Four days later, Vanderbilt head coach Bryce Drew revealed that Garland would be sidelined for the remainder of the season with a meniscus injury.

On January 22, 2019, he announced that he would leave Vanderbilt to recover from his injury and prepare for the 2019 NBA draft.
