Andre Iguodala was born January 28, 1984 and is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA.

The veteran also known as “Iggy” was part of the Warriors 3 championship success in 2015 and their back to back titles in 2017 and 2018.

Andre too was named the MVP in the 2015 NBA finals.

Early life of Andre Iguodala

Iguodala, born to Leonard and Linda Shanklin in Springfield, Illinois, USA.

His dad Leonard is Nigerian whiles his mum is African-American.

His dual nationality qualified him to either represent Nigeria or USA on International level which he did for the latter, winning gold medals at the FIBA world cup in 2010 and Olympics in London in 2012.

He also has an older brother Frank Iguodala who played division 1 basketball for Dayton University.

Andre has always stated he supported the Chicago Bulls as a kid and looked up to Michael Jordan as his role model.

Basketball became his inspiration as early as five years old just like many kids in America.

 



Career of Andre Iguodala

After a visit to the campus of Arkansas, Andre was driven by the schools 1-3 system and its large gym base as well as the number of fans allowed to view a basketball training session, he became so passionate about the School.

Iguodala initially signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Arkansas but later rescinded his decision after their coach, Nolan Richardson, was fired that same year in 2002.

He finally decided to play his college basketball at Arizona which will also future some future NBA prospects like Channing Frye and Salim Stoudamire.

Before the 2004 NBA draft Iggy was considered among the top picks with very huge potential considering has work rate, basketball IQ and how of an all-rounder he was.

The Philadelphia 76ers ended up choosing him as the 9TH Overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft.

After the draft, ESPN personality Dick Vitale commented that it was a mistake for the Sixers to take him, saying “Iguodala was a [27 percent] shooter from the college three-point line.

He’s not going to be able to play”.

Iguodala used this as motivation in what proved to be a very productive rookie season.

He also started every game in his rookie season in a very competitive 76ers team featuring Allen Iverson and Kyle Korver.

Commenting on his first rookie contract he recalls he spent thousands of dollars purchasing lots of pairs of Jordans and a whole bunch citing that he didn’t know how to spend money.

He played 9 seasons at 76ers and is the 9th highest scorer in the Franchise’s history.

By 2012 Andre was traded to the Denver Nuggets in a three team trade involving the Lakers and Orlando Magic.

After a successful one season stint with the Nuggets he was traded to the Golden State Warriors in July, 2013.

And was part of all their 3 NBA championship winning team in 2014-15 season and the back to back title feat in 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.
On July 7, 2019, Golden State traded Iguodala along with a protected first-round draft pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for Julian Washburn.

The Warriors received a traded player exception in the deal.

On February 6, 2020, Iguodala was traded to the Miami Heat in a three-team trade along with Jae Crowder and Solomon Hill with Memphis and Minnesota.
When he helped The Heat reach the 2020 NBA Finals, Iguodala became the tenth player in NBA history to make it to six straight Finals.

On August 10, 2021, Iguodala returned to the Golden State Warriors, and is presently with the Franchise.
